Vocabulary#8 The Inner Solar System

Planet:Alarge body orbiting a star,such as the Sun.
S:In the solar system exist 7 planets.

Solar System:A star,such as the Sun,and all the objects orbiting it.
S:The solar system is the Sun and other bodies traveling around it.

Asteroid:A rocky,metallic object that orbits the sun.
S:The asteroids are too small to be consider a planet.

Kepler`s laws:Laws that summarize the movement of the planets.
S:Exist three laws of Kepler.

Vocabulary#7 The Moon in Motion

Phase of the Moon:The shape of the lighted part of the Moon seen from Earth at any time.
S:Exist many types of phases of the moon for example,New Moon Phase.

Lunar Eclipse:A blocking of a view of the full Moon when the Moon passes into Earth`s shadow.
S:Lunar eclipse pass when the Moon is cover.

Solar eclipse:A blocking out of a view of the sun when Earth passes through the Moon`s shadow.
S:For Solar eclipse occur the moon need to be between Earth and Sun.

Tide:The regular rise and fall of the water level along a shoreline.
S:The tide occur by the pull of moon`s gravity on Earth.

Vocabulary#6 Earth and the Sun

Rotation:A complete spin on an axis.
S:It takes 24 hours for the Earth to make one rotation.
 
International Date Line:The 180 line of longitude.
S:If you cross the date line going west,you add a day.

Standard Time Zone:A belt 15 wide in longitude in which all places have the same time.
S:There an hour of difference between the time zone.

Revolution:One complete trip around the Sun.
S:The Earth takes 365 days to make revolution.

Vocabulary#5 The tools of Astronomers

Universe:Everything that exists.
S:All living thing and non-living thing live in the universe.
Telescope:A device that collects light and makes distant objects appear closer and larger.
S:A telescope is a tool that astronomers use to waatch the sky.

Refraction:The bending of waves as they go from one substance to another.
S:Refraction occurs in eyeglasses and some telescopes.

Reflection:The bouncing of waves off a surface.
S:Reflection occurs in mirrors and some telescopes.
 
Wavelenght:The distance from one peak to the next on a wave.
S:Wavelenght is measure in meters.
Frequency:The number of waves  that pass through a point in a second.
S:Frequency is measure in hertz.
Electromagnetic Spectrum:Waves of light in order by wavelenght.
S:Examples of E.S are:Radio Waves,micro waves and gamma rays.


Vocabulary#4 How Inclined Planes Work

Inclined Plane:A straight, slanted surface that is not moved when it is used.
   S:A ramp is an example of an inclined plane.

Screw:An inclined plane wrapped around a central bar.
S:A screw is an example of a simple machine.

Wedge:One or a combination of two inclined planes that is moved when used.
S:A wedge can have one or two slanted surfaces.


Compound Machine:A combination of two or more machines.
S:A scissor is a compound machine.

Efficiency:A ratio of the work done by a machine compared with the work put into the machine.
S:The efficiency can be calculate.
